Mehendi & Sangeet
Friday, September 17th, 2027
An evening of celebration featuring mehendi (henna), dance performances, food and drinks.
Mehendi
It is tradition for the bride and the wedding guests to put on henna. The bride will often have very elaborate designs across her arms and legs. These designs are often floral and geometric.
If you're interested in getting henna done, expect it to take about 10 minutes depending on the design you choose. You'll need to wait half an hour for it to dry (you won't be able to hold anything during this time!) and then scrape it off. The henna will darken in color completely in one to two days and remain on your hands for one to two weeks. We encourage you to join in this tradition!
Sangeet
Starts at 7:30 PM
The sangeet is a really fun element in wedding traditions where the bride's side and the groom's side participate in a friendly dance competition.
For this event, Meera has picked songs that were meaningful to her childhood. The bride and groom will perform choreographed dances with various friends and family to a few of these songs. It's a great way to kick off a night of dancing! A mix of Bollywood and English songs will play throughout the night. No one will judge your dance moves, the only important thing is for you to join in on the dancing! Feel free to use some of the new moves on display.
Baaraat, Pheras & Dancing
Saturday, September 18th, 2027
The baraat (wedding procession), followed by the wedding ceremony, dinner, and dancing.
Baaraat
Starts at 4:00 PM
Traditionally, the groom's side walks in a wedding procession from their house to the wedding ceremony, with music and dancing along the way.
At 4 PM sharp, all of Daniel's friends and family should assemble at 142 Magnolia Avenue to begin the short but sweet procession to Ivywood Hall with music and dancing.
As you meet the bride's side in the middle of Ivywood Hall, there will be a small ceremony called the Milni, where the corresponding relatives from each side hug each other and present gifts to signify the merging of the families. After this, the bride and groom will exchange garlands.
Pheras
Starts at 4:30 PM
For the pheras, everyone will make their way into the middle of Ivywood Hall, where a Hindu priest will begin the wedding ceremony around a sacred fire.
The ceremony will conclude with the couple walking around the fire seven times to signify their commitment to their marriage. Following the pheras, there will be dinner and dancing.
